If you’ve ever wondered what the perfect New England fall wedding looks like, let me introduce you to Stephanie and Zach’s September wedding at Regatta Place in Newport, Rhode Island.
This one had everything. A sun soaked Saturday, a harbor entrance by boat, two dressed up dogs, and a reception tent that looked like it belonged in a design magazine. As a Boston and Newport wedding photographer, I photograph a lot of beautiful days, and this one genuinely stopped me in my tracks more than once!
A First Look at Newport Harbor Island Resort
The morning started at Newport Harbor Island Resort, where Stephanie and Zach shared their first look with the historic lighthouse standing quietly behind them. Their two dogs were there, dressed and present and completely woven into the morning in the way only beloved pets can be. It was tender and easy and exactly the kind of moment that reminds you why first looks are worth it.
The Most Newport Ceremony Entrance We Have Ever Seen
Zach arrived to the ceremony by boat.
He and his groomsmen came across Newport Harbor before stepping ashore to get married, and it was one of those moments that only works in a very specific place. Newport is that place. The harbor was calm, the light was perfect, and the whole thing felt cinematic without trying to be.
Regatta Place: A Reception Tent Done Right
The reception at Regatta Place was a masterclass in considered design. Botanical printed linens were layered beneath soft florals and cascading greenery that draped across the ceiling beams. Fairy lights and gold chandelier fixtures warmed the entire space, and the overall effect was collected rather than overdone. You could feel Stephanie’s design sensibility in every detail without it ever feeling overdone or busy.
Regatta Place is one of those Newport wedding venues that gives you so much to work with as a photographer. The harbor light, the architecture, the waterfront access. It is genuinely one of my favorites to photograph on the Rhode Island coast.
Ben and Jerry’s on the Dock and a Perfect Send Off
Guests ended the night with scoops from a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream cart on the dock, which is the kind of detail that sounds simple and lands perfectly. Stephanie and Zach closed out the evening with a kiss beneath oversized marquee letters, the Newport harbor stretched out behind them in the dark.
It was a genuinely beautiful day, from the first look to the final frame.
